Our client is looking for a Head of Actuarial Function (m/f/d) for their office in Munich. The Head of Actuarial Function engages in discussions with senior management and the Board on Management decisions and maintains links to the other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide opinion on underwriting policy, pricing adequacy and plan loss ratios
  • Contribute to risk management via quantitative risk modelling and solvency assessment
  • Opine on adequacy of reinsurance
  • Validate adequacy of technical provisions


Required Skills:

  • Data Modelling & Tools: Ability to understand the business needs and to develop the necessary data tools/models to support the business. (e.g. rate development, risk capital, etc.)
  • Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of the product portfolio
  • P&C Insurance Knowledge: Robust knowledge of the business financials (e.g. P&L, B/S, Capital Rpts, etc.) and actuarial concepts (e.g. reserving & pricing techniques, rate development and regulatory rules & regulations, etc.)
  • Robust knowledge of principles and practices of other relevant functional areas including Claims, Underwriting, Reinsurance and Accounting, both locally and internationally
  • Communication and Presentation Skills
  • Decision Making
  • Conflict Management
  • Navigating Complexity: Ability to make sense of complex issues; respond to complex/ambiguous situations by identifying & initiating appropriate remediation & follow up
  • Able to anticipate and resolve issues before these transpire

Qualifications required:

  • Qualified Actuary
  • Excellent tertiary qualification (ideally Master), preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline

Experience required:

  • Min. 11 years’ significant experience, in all major actuarial disciplines – pricing & ratemaking, advanced modelling, reserving/forecasting
  • Min. 7-10 years’ experience working with an international commercial P&C portfolio and market place, with a clear understanding of the opportunities & risks around the business
  • Experience of managing & developing resources across different functional areas and territories
  • Experience of planning, project-managing and driving changes and major projects
